Internal Variables Analysis

Bitcoin users’ internal variables (PU and PEOU) are analysed using standard multiple regression with standardised beta values in relationship with behavioural factor “intent of use”.

Hypothesis 1

H10: Level of perceived usefulness (PU) has a positive relationship with “intent of use” of Bitcoin.

Hypothesis 2

H20: Level of perceived ease-of-use (PEOU) has a positive relationship with “intent of use” of Bitcoin.

Table 11: R Square of PU and PEOU

The value of “R Square” found in the model summary box is the value of how much the dependent variable (Intent to use) is explained by the model. This value is 0.308 which is 30.8% explanation. Recalling Salo & Karjaluoto’s (2007) web of four internal and five external antecedents to trust (figure 2) an 30.8% explanation derived from PU and PEOU seems to be quite high. An explanation may be due to low valuation of the other factors thus elevating the importance of PU and PEOU. According to this sample, Bitcoin’s perceived benefits in usefulness over traditional currency incite more trust than: web vendors reputation; peer recommendation or privacy protection factors.

To assess the statistical significance of PU and PEOU on the intent of use an ANOVA (appendix 5) was used to test a null hypothesis. As this is a reverse concept the significance of 0.000 in this instance indicates that the hypothesis is significant.
