Structure of the Study

The mixed method approach of this study allowed the researcher to take full advantage of the small sample size of Bitcoin companies interviewed by qualitative analysis while using quantitative techniques on the larger sample of individual Bitcoin users. Ivankova et al (2006) describes congruent mixed methods as the marriage of two datasets where two studies are conducted in parallel with the results combined to yield pertinent insights. The increased confidence and validity in results from multiple perspectives in a singular study is described as methodological triangulation (Thomas, 2004).  Both the studies into company and customer perspectives of Bitcoin were structured around the TAM.

As both qualitative and quantitative data sets are brought together insights are generated through critically analysing gaps between company and customer perspectives.  Modules taught on the Masters of Business Administration (MBA) were utilised in attempt to synthesis a holistic report with aspects of financial management, marketing management, operation strategies and strategic management.

This paper was originally submitted for grading to the University of Surrey MBA in October 2013. Due to further interest the author has uploaded this version on-line.
